Colonies of plate corals of the genera Alveolites and Thamnopora, Moravian Karst
Colonies of plate corals of the genera Alveolites and Thamnopora, Moravian Karst
These are two large museum polished butts, the left and right sides. A perfect example of a longitudinal section of a massive colony of flaky coral of the Alveolites genus, which has remained exemplary preserved in shades of rust, gray and white. The view of the plate coral that grows on the first largest colony in the right part of the sample is interesting. Another plate coral that we find is the genus Thamnopora resembling small bushes and rough (rugose) corals as their transverse and longitudinal sections. These fossils, on the other hand, are accumulated in a fine gray clayey material, which increases their contrast. On the raw sides, the coral fossils are naturally prepared, in great detail, which gives the stone a completely different dimension. Lazanecki limestone.
